NATO DIANA Funding Explained
DIANA funding is staged. Every company accepted into a cohort receives a €100,000 non-dilutive Phase 1 grant alongside a place in the accelerator. A smaller group is then selected for Phase 2 and receives an additional €300,000, bringing the maximum published award to €400,000. The Warfighters Challenge runs on a separate contractual basis. This page sets out what is actually published, what it means in practice, and which tracked companies sit at each stage.
The funding pipeline
Funding moves in one direction: acceptance into a cohort, Phase 1 grant and accelerator programme, then selection of the strongest performers into Phase 2.
Non-dilutive grant awarded to every selected company on entry to the accelerator programme.
Outstanding performers advance to Phase 2 with an additional €300,000, bringing the total to up to €400,000 per company.
A pan-Alliance network of accelerator locations across Europe and North America.
Access to more than 200 test centres for validation in real defence environments.
Funding is non-dilutive. DIANA takes no equity. Warfighters Challenge selectees receive €100,000 in contractual funding each.
What each stage means
Phase 1: €100,000 grant
Awarded on acceptance into a cohort. DIANA describes the grant as non-dilutive, so NATO takes no equity. It runs alongside a six-month accelerator programme with access to the test centre network and mentoring.
Phase 2: additional €300,000
Awarded to companies selected to continue after Phase 1. NATO DIANA announced its first Phase 2 selections in September 2025. The tracker records 14 companies with a publicly confirmed Phase 2 place.
Warfighters Challenge
A separate special challenge. Selected companies receive €100,000 in contractual funding and work toward live demonstrations due December 2026, at a maturity level of TRL 7+ focus.

Common questions
- Does NATO take equity in DIANA companies?
- No. DIANA publishes the Phase 1 award as a non-dilutive grant, so it does not exchange funding for equity.
- Can a company receive more than €400,000?
- Not from the published DIANA grant structure. €100,000 in Phase 1 plus €300,000 in Phase 2 is the maximum published award. Any further funding a company holds comes from other sources, which the tracker does not record unless publicly documented.
- Is Phase 2 automatic?
- No. Phase 2 places are selected from Phase 1 participants, and only a minority continue. Selection dates and counts are recorded on each cohort page.

Methodology and limitations
Funding figures are the amounts NATO DIANA publishes for the programme, applied to the stage each tracked company has publicly reached. The tracker does not hold contract values, disbursement schedules or private investment, and does not estimate them. Where a cohort's Phase 2 selections have not been announced, the count is shown as not publicly available rather than projected from earlier cohorts.
Alliance Tech Tracker is independent and unofficial and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NATO or DIANA. Where a value is not published, records show "Not publicly available" rather than an estimate. See the full methodology.
